So for a couple of years now all I kept hearing is "you need to do C2E2!!". Naturally the intrigue was running pretty rapid and I when I looked into the event 6months prior I had found out they were booked solid. "So that sucks" I thought. For something to book up that far in advance is pretty major. But then by the power of the nerd Gods the art coordinators felt compelled to reach out to me when a spot opened up. Before I get into it I have to say first that this event...is AMAZING and rivals Comic Con pretty hard. I started realizing that these cons get pretty overwhelming and so I decided to start picking up helpers at my booths for the thousands of people rolling through. This time around I was fortunate enough to snag up me best friend and fellow creative juggernaut Chaz Schoenbeck all the way from Vegas. Keep an eye out for his film/photography/writing here in the future. We even have a comic book in the works. You're welcome in advance because yes its that awesome. After catastrophically navigating the McCormick Center where C2E2 was held and schmoozing a food vendor to let me use their huge pizza cart to load in my work we were ready for the nerdtacular nedation to begin. I brought a lot of new pieces which ended up being some of the most popular things I have ever done. Notably a Shredder which had a waiting list of 5 people hoping that the first potential buyer would fall through. I mentioned to the others waiting that I would be finishing up a couple more pieces for the following day which included another Shredder. It was the first time I got to experience people showing up the next day and waiting for me to get their so they could beat others to the punch. I had never been on the other end. By the way in case you're wondering I will be releasing prints of these pieces here on the website. I do have to say that my favorite new piece would have to be my Skeletor. The original is still available which I cant say I'm horribly upset about because it means I get to have it with me a bit longer. This time around I did a lot of 80s cartoon characters (mainly villains) and I'm really pleased with how they all came out. The roster included what you see here, Dino Riders T-Rex, and Mumm-Ra. Up next: Cobra Commander, Monstar, Scareglow and a few more surprises. By the way while finishing that Shredder piece at 3am on a Friday, Chaz doodled an Apocalypse on the corner of a piece of scratch pen testing paper while trying to take viruses off of my computer. I say Im going to ink it in and he tells me to also make a bunch of destructive stuff behind him. Maybe it was the lack if sleep but I decided that the most appropriate thing was to make him planning to turn a cupcake into an evil cupcake which afterward was dubbed "the velvet hate cake". I met a ton of cool people and was visited by some great friends which reconfirmed how many sweet and giving people there are in the world! Thank you all for the gifts and love! We pulled through to the half way point and myself, Chaz and the bearded wonder Professor EJ Bocan shoveled down some mediocre all you can eat sushi (this was answered by eating at Sushi Yaki later on which is the greatest sushi place I have ever gone to. Its worth the trip out to Arlingotn Heights alone). On the final day Chaz and I only then FINALLY got to venture out on the floor and see what awesome stuff lay before us..only to have it pretty much become null and void when Travel Channel's Toy Hunters asked to film us as I inquired about a $7500 7 foot G.I.Joe aircaft carrier from the 80s. So when you see a guy acting like a total idiot on that show....its definitely me. That is the one thing I can say I am envious of. You guys get to walk around and see all of the cool stuff! So jealous. Still though, it was a pretty spontaneously fun AND may have resulted in a possible opportunity of amaaaazingness. I dont want to give away too much just in case nothing comes of it but you'll be frantically updated if and when it does happen. When the event closed up we set back out to scour through the great nerd treasurers (short of all of the artists I wanted to look around at). It takes a while for figure exhibitors to pack up so theres the opening for nerd hunting. And because of all of my hard work I decided to treat myself to something I have always wanted but never had the full set up of. The original Skeletor and Panthor WITH armor. Preeeetty big deal. Yeah I know..I'm cool. We headed back to the booth only to find that it was the last booth sitting there in artist alley. Just a sea of nothing and some jerks who STILL hadnt packed up yet. Yikes. We loaded the grids and everything else up onto a rolling recycling bin I found ( I'm starting to sense I should invest in a dolly or cart of some kind) and took off home for a much needed night of sleep which in fact just turned into a full night of designing a new t-shirt. So in the end it was exhaustion at its most devastating but nothing a little Kumas Corner with a nickle size Cthulu couldnt help fix. Until C2E2 2014 folks!

9/26/2012 0 Comments COMING SOON!?Yes, that IS from Cabin in the Woods! So I have been working hard on a TON of new stuff for you guys! Scarefest is 2 days around the corner and then Halloween quickly follows! The website is going to be getting updated with more prints. And I am using the word "more" pretty lightly. Think of it rather as a "megafuckton". Scientifically speaking. If you have been to one of my shows you have probably noticed I have way more prints to select from. I am going to slowly build up the site so that your selection can be even greater and it can be more like visiting my booth at a show. I have also started working on my first graphic novel "With Dead Hands". It's gonna blow your mind. I'm bringing a new anti-hero to the world. AND shirts! Yes finally I will be releasing Tshirts! The first batch will be an extreeeemely exclusive run at Scarefest only, but then I swear you will all have dibs! Thats it for now. Oh and I have jumped on a production of RENT as Roger. Its for a University that had a really great out of the box education idea. To grab professional actors in Chicago jump on the cast and act as a mentor/future connection for the kids majoring and minoring in the theater program. "We feel there is only so much a teacher can teach the kids and only so much they can get out of each other. Its important for them to act amongst people who are already doing it professionally, ask questions that we may not be able to answer from a certain perspective and hopefully make a connection in the scene when they graduate". Love it. I have been preaching that kind of teaching for years. And lastly, I am currently working on my new bands (StrangeLife) album. Whew. Thank you again to everyone for the support and please keep sharing my art!
Saturday 9/1 through Monday 9/3 ALL prints are on sale. 11x14, 7x17, and 8x14 prints are $12 and 8.5x11 prints are $6! At the top of each store page is a price selection. Upon paying for your print just tell me the one you want in the memo portion of paypal. You can always email as well at adamsartbox@yahoo.com to be even more efficient or to just say hello! DON'T FORGET THAT THIS ALSO APPLIES TO SPECIALTY PAGES LIKE MY STAR WARS AND AVENGERS PAGES! Now get some stuff for you and your friends! Or tell your friends to get YOU stuff for that one thing you did that was so cool!
Well it was my second year of Chicago Comic Con and I have to saw it was even more awesome than last year! None of its amazing experience would have been possible with all of the people who supported it. Whether you came and saw me or promoted me somewhere else in the world via twitter, THANK YOU. Alright, that all had to come first and foremost. Now to a quick weekend breakdown. I ended up flying solo this year. Aaron Goodwin was going to be hanging at the booth with me and have a ton of awesome A Goodwin Collection stuff but duty calls and he had to go track down some ghosts. So he and I will be together again at Scarefest in September 2012. I released some brand new art at the Con including 3 Doctor Who pieces (2 of which are no longer available) and 3 of my untitled Star Wars series pieces. If you hold any interest of snagging up one of these originals then I would suggest doing it sooner rather than later. Twice this weekend I got to witness the decision to come back for art only to have someone else come back and swoop up just hours later. I had never been witness to that. I've only been in their shoes before so it was weird to finally see from a viewers point. You can FINALLY see the pieces here on the website so go and check it out! A really cool highlight of the weekend was having Predator himself (Scar to be exact) come over and bring crowds of people. His spokesperson announced that you could find predator art at my booth and that the predator would sign it as well. The Predator apparently liked my art (especially the predator art) so much that he wanted to pull that stunt. It really meant a whole lot. And it was fun to see the predator signing his autograph. I do have to admit that I got some stuff signed as well. One of the highlights of the Con was getting to meet the one and only Brom. If you don't already know, Brom is my favorite artist of all time. I have been a huge fan and inspired by his work since before I even knew who he was. Whether I was flipping through a comic book and pausing in aw on the D&D ad pages with his dragons or redrawing the Doom 2 cover or seeing something else that I didn't even know he was the working hand in, I was a fan since I was a child. In highschool I finally learned who he was. His work could be found plasterd on my books or on my bedroom walls. It had been a dream to finally meet him. When I found out he was going to be at Chicago Comic Con I was pretty much a gitty fan girl. Let me, just for the record, say that I have met a lot of people I consider to be famous. I was a singer for a rock band and played with and met bands like KISS, Goo Goo Dolls, Gavin Rossdale, chatted with movie folk such as Sylvester Stallone, Milla Jovovich, Sean Patrick Flannery. I have always managed to keep my cool,BUT meeting Brom was my fan boy moment. I would like to say I maintained myself pretty well, but I'm sure I still came off a little strong. Brom if you ever read this, trust me I am totally not a weirdo. Hah eh nah I wasn't that bad. It was an honor getting to meet him. I must say that I had always thought he might be kind of intense and dark (judging from his photos) but honestly he could not have been more honest and sweetly spoken. Along with all of the "celebs" I have met, some of them have been pretty crummy people. Forgotten their roots. Brom is a prime example of how people should treat others and act about their success. Oh and if I said meeting him was the highlight, I should say that perhaps topping that was when he walked over to my booth, stepped behind the table, touched my canvas and started asking about my process. We discussed everything and he finally said (after a long and majestic explanation of art) "..what I'm trying to say is..you do really good work". It was all just amazing. AND his wife Laurie just so happens to be as good an artist as him! How the world didn't implode due to greatness I will never know but regardless, they were both amazing people and I walked away with my FIRST Brom original. I also would like to give a shout out to James O'Barr, creator of The Crow. I met him briefly last year and this year we actually got to talk and get to know each other a bit. He is another example of a humble and gracious human and artist. I can't wait to see him at the next Con and chat with more. For now I will just have to channel his awesome energy through my Crow wedding present. And speaking of that, thats right! I GOT MARRIED! At a beautiful wedding to a beautiful gal. All in all I would say it was a damn good week. Check out a little sneak peak of our awesome day here. http://www.brianmorrisonphotography.com/weddings/adam-laura/ Thanks again everyone for taking the time to read. I'll see you all at SCAREFEST 2012!!!! |
